“An Unconvenient truth”

introbycicle.jpg

I haven’t post for a while , someone asks for new post and here you are. I need something interesting to say before posting , these days I haven’t had interesting things to share or interesting English notes to record and I have to confess that I haven’t had the right mood… but something ( and someone 😉 ) triggers me :

I saw that film (or movie, I prefer “film”) and I feel that is a very important issue that worths discussion, and it’s a must sharing it , because it must concern all of us human beings.

A moral issue? More: a vital issue

We all in Europe know about the global warming and about its causes, and conseguenses, because this is a daily political issue in our countries, but it is never enough talking about this. Because we theoretically are aware that is a vital issue, but not in fact:

Generally parents care the future of their child, and they could worried about possible difficulties in their future: they usually worried about drugs, about sex, if their child could be homosexual, if they could have some mental disorder, about accident, about sexual crimes, about education…

but the real basic problem is if these children will have a future world. Actually very few parent are concerned about this.

The newspaper don’t tell us the real degree of importance of the news when they are telling the news. They built a degree scale that is fake. Surprise: terrorism is not the main danger! 😉

Politicians well know that if they say the truth , then we don’t vote for them  , thus they don’t say the entire truth : they are changing only few and little things that don’t fix anything but at the same time don’t arise much disagree from the people. People? I rather should say from industry companies, oil company , war company, …

Which is the connection?

Global warming depend mainly on the presence of too much Co2 in our athmospher.

Here a nice chain:

oil, coal –>too much polluntion due to combustion –>Too much Co2 <– less forests <– plantations and mines

then

Too much Co2 –> global warming–> death ( more than 9-11 !!!!!)

Oil

Well it’s not only up to the oil 😉 though oil is important because its combustion that is involved mainly to get energy , motion energy…

We should stop using oil to move our machines included cars, this is the truth in order to stop the increase of co 2,

We already know this.

I’m not talking about olive oil, of course. We have two different term in Italian : olio, it is the innocent oil from vegetal seeds , and petrolio ( litteraly stone oil). Oil itself is innocent, but we users are not… Stop using oil could be a good idea

When we are using oil?

I ‘m not an expert… (can some expert comes and corrects me and tells us more, please ?) but I can write down what I know

Oil is using in process to get plastic, to get different kind of energy , as well as electric energy ( so we are not save simply using generic electric energy), to get synthetic materials ( fabrics for example ) , and to get chemical substances

we can use less new plastic stuff recycling the old one, and as consequence less energy

we can use brain: why in winter heating till the same temperature we usually need to cool in summer!! Enjoy the fashion and use different cloths, whool in winter and cotton in summer, not cotton in winter suffering the warm of the heating and a Jacket in summer because of the air conditioner

The water sample

We are wasting a lot of good water, and it will finish sooner or later, better don’t waste it. The water in the world is it the same water that move in a circle. Yes, also the water that you using for flushing will be drunk..eheheheh but don’t worry: you will drink it after its travel down in the earth and up in the clouds… it’s all depend if soil and air are clean or not..erhmm

Water is essential though wto wants consider it as well as a simple property that you can freely buy or sell, the idea that is behind is that if you pay more you have the right to have more of it and if you want even to waste your property. Water is a human ( and not only human , animals , vegetables has the same rights) heritage, not a property… I ‘m angry .

back to the point … Need energy to built a bottle, need energy to, since filled , move it .. well why I need to bring water from France to others places ( not sahara) by train , cargos, sheeps and whatever… So Italian water travels to France and French water travel to Italy , wasting energy and increasing pollution.. Am I really able to distinguish French water from Italian one? ( perhaps wine…) I don’t like the business water I see in Italy ( I don’t know other places)

I always use the same bottle and refill it several times. If I don’t buy the water and I use the water pouring from the tap in my house I can save energy of the process for building the bottle , and energy from the travel from a place to another … and plus I can save my dignity because I don’t let them pulling my legs .

More

Watch the film or movie then, especially if you are American. The film is better then me 😆

conclusion

Someone could regret to have trigger me to post…

Justice, legality in words (English) and world (Italy)
November 21, 2006

In a comment here I have said that justice can be unfair. therefore I have noticed that in italian we haven’t the word fair. In Italian there is a word less, relating to justice… but we have a word more for the opposite, I mean mafia, please don’t draw any conclusion!

It seems to me that

Justice = Giustizia in this case these words are saying just the same thing, perfect coincidence

I can guess the following

1. Justice = the law, the rules

2. Justice= the concept of what is right

Justice 1 can be unfair, Justice 2 cannot. We aim to Justice 2, but we only can reach justice 1, sometimes….somewhere.

I know that is just the reality. I must accept this and I do. But I won’t accept illegality.

(I’m afraid I ‘m in a hard speech for my poor skill, er… doesn’t matter!)

you have not imagine murders or robbery when you think about illegacy. Imagine simple daily (Italian) life.

You must park your motorbike in the special spaces, but you can’t : there are cars instead. No others places are available. So you are force to park your motorbike in the cars place. By the time you’ll be back you will find a fine, only for you….not for that car.

Doctors have to follow strict rules to vaccinate babies, but usually very fews ( I should have written “nobody”, I’m afraid) follow them …

People must pay taxes , a lot of people here don’t pay taxes. As a result we missing money for educations, health service and I think also police service that should force people paying taxes…

The consequence:

If you need something from the public service, you have to find someone, I mean a friend, that help you. for example, you need x-ray. No money, few doctors and so long queues for x-ray. But you really need it and you have a friend that is a doctor just in public health service… I guess that someone will wait a bit more his or her turn.

Not so immoral, only a bit, isn’t ?

but IT’S UNFAIR ! I get angry…

development of an exercise book
November 12, 2006

growing.jpg

I want to make this blog less selfish.

I have started this blog as an exercise book for learning English. But language is not neutral. When you are learning a language you have to face with contents not only form.

I have written a comment to a post of Alabaster , were I have used the words fair and justice, saying that in Italian I could express myself better. Of course Italian is my language but actually in Italian I wouldn’t express it better, because we have only a single word for justice… this is an occasion for thinking: why we Italians have so many swearing words and so few for justice?! 😯
(First: I ‘m going to write a post about justice words) .

There are another thing to be considered, language first of all is saying something about the people that speak it, plus I ‘m learning through people (and this is great!!!) . As a consequence this blog have become not a simple exercise book, like a paper one on my desk, but an alive exchange room.

This is why I’m going to publish something useful in return. What can I do ? I can write some information about Italy , or rather about Florence, as a start. I think that can be useful a small guide for surviving in Florence ( I love travelling, I want help travellers)!
second: I ‘m going to write a post about saving money in Florence

I have found another intersting thing in the comments here and here (quote Alabaster) :

"On the money is kind of like saying..absolutely perfectly accurate.
The idea basically comes from gambling. If you get it right then you
are going to win money..so you are 'on the money'. Hitting the nail
on the head is another similar expression.
It just means correct and right."

They are both about “hit the nail on the head” that have surprising me. Gestures are different in Italian and in English, and also gestures are language!

so third: I’m going to write an illustrated post on Italian gesture ( eventually also my drawings will be useful 🙂 )

nobel prize winners and education loosers
October 11, 2006

usciopiccolo1.jpgNobel prize winners in Chemistry , in Physics and in Medicine are all from U.S.A., also in Economic science… Bravi!

In Italy , on the other hand , I have read that we have a big problem of illiteracy 😦 … I’m very sorry and I can’t find out what is the cause. Many people become illiterate from a literate position. They gave up reading and writing and their skills get worst. But the figures are impressing: 12% are totally analphabetic, and only 7,5% have a graduate degree 😯

I personally know some of them ( I mean some of the 12% here… and yes, I know also some rare type from the 7,5%, I know I’m very lucky  ) , they are often elder people with a hard past life that didn’t let them study as they would had liked. Now, old and without the willingness for the studyng effort, they risk to be out of the society. But sometimes they are young people… they are worker, they usually vote ( we have a very high turnout, about 80% and sometimes more…) , they have children …so they do things and they should be supposed having definite skills and they haven’t, but nobody seems realise that there is a problem in their daily life. I ‘m concern about it.

the wall
October 5, 2006

I have read about the great idea of another wall-barrier in the world. We really miss it ! I can’t believe it. History didn’t teach us anything. Walls is the answer in Palestine , and now on the border between U.S.A. and Mexico. I don’t think that it can solve the problem. Actually I don’t know what the problem is .( Immigration?it’s since the beeing humans was born… Americans must know something about it) I know that Mexicans and others walking  walk into U.S.A without permission , but I know also that California can’t work without Spanish people. I wonder: who will be the workers that will build that wall?  White northern Americans?

Brick Lane ( by M. Ali)
September 12, 2006

binocolo1.jpgThis is my second reading in English. I have to admit that I skipped a lot, but not enough to not understand the story. It is about the Nazneen ‘s life within an arranged wedding in a foreign country.
I found the letters from Nazneen’s sister, Hasina, very hard to understand.

I liked this novel but… but it’s too much feminine, it’s missing a masculine side. Males remain off scene. It is the women’s life that this novel is telling. In my experience women’s life is entangled with men’s life deeply, so there is something leaved out.

I finished Pride and Prejudice yesterday, but in Italian ( I’m not interested in old English, It could make me more confusing) and I find the same need to get a good marriage… it could be that we have an “ethnic woman” on a side, and an old one on the other, but another kind of woman, with an own job and house could want a good marriage as well. it’s depend on the meaning of that “good” (eg someone who doesn’t let her alone)

I need to read this novel, Brick lane, again ( not immediately ), to follow English now that I knew the story.

left-handed’s day
August 31, 2006

thumb_righello.jpgI am left-handed, I’m lefty. I find a lot of discussions, articles and stuff about left-handedness on the Internet, also because of there was a left-handeds’ day few days ago. I can’t help to wonder why most left-handeds talk about it as well as we lefties are different and belonging to a special community. I find also someone talking about a sort of discrimination 😯 . This is unfair for who is really discriminated, in my opinion.

I didn’t find so hard learning writing.I never think to be more smart because of I’m able to use tools that are thought for right handed. I never felt different. I’m a special left-handed?

Some days ago, it was the twins’ day also, and I’m a twin too. I wonder if they are going to create a curly’s day…

Everyday is something’s day , does this actually help the “something” issue? I don’t know. These days have to point out a problem, an issue, that has to be changed or accepted. I think we had better to reserve our days for something more important that left-handedness, because nobody can realise a special day, if all day are special.

Welcome the proper special days!

In Italian we left-handed are “mancini” , from latin “mancus” meaning who is lacking in. I hope that nobody points out that this is can be a political incorrect term… In Italy we have changed a lot in the name of political correctness , with very ridiculous outcomes.

“About a Boy”, my first reading in English !!!
August 27, 2006

segnalibropicc.jpgI have red my first English book , an easy and nice one, “About a Boy” by Nick Hornby. This is a goal for me! Brava!( there is not a proper translation for this Italian word that can works as well, in my opinion…. any suggestion?)

I had started looking up my dictionary every time I had bumped into an unknowing word (how good!) , but after a while, the story caught me and I was reading without stopping every now and again I didn’t know a term, this didn’t bothered me, I wanted only to get the general meaning. Despite this, I have learned a lot.

About a Boy

About mother and child. Is bringing up children by own peculiar believes unfair? I think no. It might be unfair, but it is the only way, no other is possible. If you believe that to be vegetarian is the right way, so you will bring up your child as vegetarian, no way to behave different. It is the same concerning religion, politics, culture.

About loneliness and intimacy relationship. How does relationship works? is it better to be alone and to feel free? is it better to feel the duty and to feel protect ? Everyone can decide for himself . I know that it’s not enough to decide in order to be not alone (the contrary can work: if you want be alone, it’s enough to decide it and to behave consequently), but it can be a start 😉

About saying the truth. “the truth is good ,the lie is bad” it’s not true, not always…it’s not so simple, it need a deeper discussion

About death and how to be cool. The willing death, the fearing of death,…is loving life a duty? Is being happy a right? You always has to be happy, enjoy the weather, the job, the bad as well the good things, in sum, enjoy the life… and if you insist to not enjoy it , according to the ads, you can change your mobile, your car and change your life, don’t you? More: you always has to remain young, the oldness is not allowed. ( if you are forever young, you can live forever, don’t you?)

About a lot , as a good novel has to be.

This novel tell us a lot of things. I knew all of these, but when a good teller tell them, they began new and catch something deeper. Thanks Nick

Trivial
July 20, 2006

I’m sad, only because I’m always anger. 😦 I feel misunderstood.I likely behave in a different way from others… A lot of very close people say me that I’m strange, odd. I’m not actually strange. I’m on average.colore.jpg

I hate noise, I can’t bear the people that make noise, and noisy devices such as television and most of all “home theatre” 8O…we all live so close each other, how can they think that the sound don’t doesn’t reach the neighbour? Television sound is penetrating…and I can’t protect myself. I’m anger. We have no television in our home, we keep it in the basement ( a nice basement indeed) , but we are able to listen to two TV programs at once! Voices are crossing in our kitchen and in our heads. Here the outcome: a different dialogue between actors that never had encountered. Funny but I can’t read a book on my coach, I can’t listen to my music, I can’t chat with my partner.

And what about noisy motorbikes ? Why they need to be so noisy? 😯 I guess that they could go the same, even with less noise…

Plus, I want to cross the road saving my life, I mean, first, keeping myself alive , and second not spending all my life waiting for crossing. I claim to cross, cars have to stop to let pedestrian cross.

I have also others freak and funny ideas like above,I hate using too much plastic than necessary, I hate swearing without reason, I hate who don’t want to know because it’s boring, I hate who don’t want think himself, I hate who don’t think that could be others around in the world… I’m very strange, aren’I?

English is strange
July 18, 2006

to cleave means both to divide and to unite !!! 😯 😯 😯
How can English speakings understand each other?

Have I to give up with English? This is my challenge! I never give up!

Give me a cleaver, I want to fight !
