I have red my first English book , an easy and nice one, “About a Boy” by Nick Hornby. This is a goal for me! Brava!( there is not a proper translation for this Italian word that can works as well, in my opinion…. any suggestion?)
I had started looking up my dictionary every time I had bumped into an unknowing word (how good!) , but after a while, the story caught me and I was reading without stopping every now and again I didn’t know a term, this didn’t bothered me, I wanted only to get the general meaning. Despite this, I have learned a lot.
About a Boy
About mother and child. Is bringing up children by own peculiar believes unfair? I think no. It might be unfair, but it is the only way, no other is possible. If you believe that to be vegetarian is the right way, so you will bring up your child as vegetarian, no way to behave different. It is the same concerning religion, politics, culture.
About loneliness and intimacy relationship. How does relationship works? is it better to be alone and to feel free? is it better to feel the duty and to feel protect ? Everyone can decide for himself . I know that it’s not enough to decide in order to be not alone (the contrary can work: if you want be alone, it’s enough to decide it and to behave consequently), but it can be a start 😉
About saying the truth. “the truth is good ,the lie is bad” it’s not true, not always…it’s not so simple, it need a deeper discussion
About death and how to be cool. The willing death, the fearing of death,…is loving life a duty? Is being happy a right? You always has to be happy, enjoy the weather, the job, the bad as well the good things, in sum, enjoy the life… and if you insist to not enjoy it , according to the ads, you can change your mobile, your car and change your life, don’t you? More: you always has to remain young, the oldness is not allowed. ( if you are forever young, you can live forever, don’t you?)
About a lot , as a good novel has to be.
This novel tell us a lot of things. I knew all of these, but when a good teller tell them, they began new and catch something deeper. Thanks Nick
