Today is the 40th anniversary of the flood in Florence, my city. I was only 4 months at that time, I can’t remember anything, but I have seen a lots of photos and I have listen to a lot of stories.
One of this is about what happened to the prisoners of Le Murate, the male prison in the centre.
One of them died, he was only 25. The others were received as guests by the neighbourhood, in their civil homes. Then they return back to their prison. … they could have escaped , but they haven’t . They returned to detention after had said thank you to their hosts.

actually I don’t understand your comment. Perhaps is my fault, my lack of enough explanation. It was a special situation where criminals acted simply as men, not as they were expected as criminals. Extreme situations make change the usual perspective. Perhaps this can be the wrong in their mind.
criminals are humen, well some of ’em. but logics says other things.

I guess anything at this point can be justified by logic. When a person, guilty or unguilty, feels compelled to fulfill a civic duty or responsibilty, they are restoring order to society. Thank God some people think about more than covering their own a**!! I agree with Cristina here.

I think that doesn’t exist an Italian for “shit&fuck” that is literally “merda e fottere” (sorry), but we don’t use them in this way. We, in my region have very hard swearing. Here swearing is against saints , Christ and God, I ‘m sorry but that’s the true. So you can hearing “merda”, that is shit, from anyone, also ladies and we don’t consider it a very swear word. When need, it can be said. I ‘m thinking about a post on swearing, that could be interesting.

The a** did stand for “ass” as you suspected… I’d say it pretty much corrisponds to “parare culo/sedere” in italian. It is not vulgar, yet not excessively polite! But as I say, when it’s time to use the a-word, it’s time to use the a-word…or the f-word or the s-word! 🙂 😀
