pictures of my travel

February 16, 2007 - One Response

Here some pictures of my travel.

I have been in Argentina and now I want to learn Spanish too, but I have not much time for another blog.

I have seen such a beautiful things there: rich jungles, wonderful flowers, beautiful landscapes, wild and free animals.

I have seen such sad things, seen the cartoneros on the road, adults and children . I have seen children with the vacuum glange of the cheap drug. There are children too small for their age and with dull hair, the sign of not good and enough eating. There are about 10.000.000 of poors specially in Buenos Aires but also in the northern.

And I have touched the reality I just heard on tv: the global warming. I have seen how the glaciers are still and just one of them is keeping growing. I have seen penguins dead because of the warmer weather. The water there is 2 C degrees warmer now than few time ago, and the penguins are 700.000 where they were 1.000.000.

I have learned how drink a good mate ( and I’m drinking it while I ‘m writing) hmmm

I have met great friends. People is very warm and friendly, honest and helpful and you can get a lot of smiles ;-)

Argentina is growing and I hope that Argentina will can feed all their sons.

I can’t understand how a such rich land can’t give enough food for everyone ( I feel anger) , It could be a naive consideration, but believe me, it’s just commonsense.

Touch wood

January 10, 2007 - 5 Responses

I have find this expression in Puddlejumper’s blog ( thanks ) , I have heard it before several time but I have forgotten…

“touch wood” “tocca ferro” ( litteraly “touch iron”)

wood= legno

ferro= iron

I don’t know why.

edit: the origin of the Italian “touch iron” could be from touching the horse-shoe that is from iron and means good luck :-)

In English and in German is “thouch wood” from touching the cross of Christ against the evil , then it also means good luck…. as I have red here

before leaving

Travelling is fascinating. Before leaving for a long travel you feel exciting , imaging wonderful landscapes, amazing encounters with animals, suggestions and people.

Travelling is also escaping. Escaping from the well- known annoying, boring things of every day to the unknown that you can imagine as you pleased.

But travelling is so wonderful because you know that you’ll come back, doesn’t matter when , indeed sooner or later you will be back . You will back to “your ” life.

What is the difference from my life and me , are they coincident? Maybe… my life is not simply “things that happen around me”. Here “me ” is essential to call it my life, and “my life” is essential to make something named “me”…

It’s an issue of identity.

Though you are living and experienced those things that belong to the travel, you consider them different from all others of your usual life… it is a fact, even if there is no logic reason.

What you are living during the travel it is different. It is somehow a vacation from yourself ;-)

I will be vacant because I will be a vagabond on my vacation. I will be busy walking, wandering , hiking and vagabonding for a whole month :-) I can’t wait !!!!

I wonder: who will I be then?

A tourist? :-(

Yes, I will be a tourist, but I will pretend not , because it’s not so cool be a simple tourist. I want to be a traveller! I don’t know which is the difference. Maybe there is no difference.

I’m living in a very touristic city, so “tourist” here is someone who actually don’t care the place, just enjoy a full-packet of views, hotel, famous stuff, shopping , then he/ she is gone. Some pictures left, some money lost. That’s all. Once upon a time my family owened an hotel in Florence, where I lived for years .. . I have known thousands of tourists very closely. I have a lot of funny stories about tourists from over the world.

The “place” is not something unrelated to its inhabitants ( also not humans ;-) ) , the people the and its history. The country and its people are a whole. You can properly know, understand , feel a place only along with its people. It’s not the same of Mars: just a wonderful landscape of rocks, here it is the Earth: it’s alive! When you visit a place, you will visit it in a certain period of time, that will be different from another… yes, this is a stupid tautology

conclusion: I will be a tourist, but I want to be a good one! ;-)

I will leave the 13 January or the 13th of January or January the 13th …. I can’t write dates in English , it is too complicated!

my dream

galileogalilei1.jpg

I have a dream. I would like to write and drawings the story of Galileo Galilei. I don’t know if I never will do it. I can start something this 2007…
Galileo was great and somehow small, he didn’t want leave his first daughter, “The Science”, to the Church , but he managed to give his two daughters  to it ( is “It” right here, my dear natives? Thank you :-)   ).

He wanted be a priest himself 8O

This is the proof how people, though ingenius, could be confused about theirselves

He is important for the statement that the science mustn’t be under the authority of the Church or of the politics, this is not an old issue, but topical, since there are theories such as creationism and intelligent design.

“An Unconvenient truth”

I haven’t post for a while , someone asks for new post and here you are. I need something interesting to say before posting , these days I haven’t had interesting things to share or interesting English notes to record and I have to confess that I haven’t had the right mood… but something ( and someone ;-) ) triggers me :

I saw that film (or movie, I prefer “film”) and I feel that is a very important issue that worths discussion, and it’s a must sharing it , because it must concern all of us human beings.

A moral issue? More: a vital issue

We all in Europe know about the global warming and about its causes, and conseguenses, because this is a daily political issue in our countries, but it is never enough talking about this. Because we theoretically are aware that is a vital issue, but not in fact:

Generally parents care the future of their child, and they could worried about possible difficulties in their future: they usually worried about drugs, about sex, if their child could be homosexual, if they could have some mental disorder, about accident, about sexual crimes, about education…

but the real basic problem is if these children will have a future world. Actually very few parent are concerned about this.

The newspaper don’t tell us the real degree of importance of the news when they are telling the news. They built a degree scale that is fake. Surprise: terrorism is not the main danger! ;-)

Politicians well know that if they say the truth , then we don’t vote for them  , thus they don’t say the entire truth : they are changing only few and little things that don’t fix anything but at the same time don’t arise much disagree from the people. People? I rather should say from industry companies, oil company , war company, …

Which is the connection?

Global warming depend mainly on the presence of too much Co2 in our athmospher.

Here a nice chain:

oil, coal –>too much polluntion due to combustion –>Too much Co2 <– less forests <– plantations and mines

then

Too much Co2 –> global warming–> death ( more than 9-11 !!!!!)

Oil

Well it’s not only up to the oil ;-) though oil is important because its combustion that is involved mainly to get energy , motion energy…

We should stop using oil to move our machines included cars, this is the truth in order to stop the increase of co 2,

We already know this.

I’m not talking about olive oil, of course. We have two different term in Italian : olio, it is the innocent oil from vegetal seeds , and petrolio ( litteraly stone oil). Oil itself is innocent, but we users are not… Stop using oil could be a good idea

When we are using oil?

I ‘m not an expert… (can some expert comes and corrects me and tells us more, please ?) but I can write down what I know

Oil is using in process to get plastic, to get different kind of energy , as well as electric energy ( so we are not save simply using generic electric energy), to get synthetic materials ( fabrics for example ) , and to get chemical substances

we can use less new plastic stuff recycling the old one, and as consequence less energy

we can use brain: why in winter heating till the same temperature we usually need to cool in summer!! Enjoy the fashion and use different cloths, whool in winter and cotton in summer, not cotton in winter suffering the warm of the heating and a Jacket in summer because of the air conditioner

The water sample

We are wasting a lot of good water, and it will finish sooner or later, better don’t waste it. The water in the world is it the same water that move in a circle. Yes, also the water that you using for flushing will be drunk..eheheheh but don’t worry: you will drink it after its travel down in the earth and up in the clouds… it’s all depend if soil and air are clean or not..erhmm

Water is essential though wto wants consider it as well as a simple property that you can freely buy or sell, the idea that is behind is that if you pay more you have the right to have more of it and if you want even to waste your property. Water is a human ( and not only human , animals , vegetables has the same rights) heritage, not a property… I ‘m angry .

back to the point … Need energy to built a bottle, need energy to, since filled , move it .. well why I need to bring water from France to others places ( not sahara) by train , cargos, sheeps and whatever… So Italian water travels to France and French water travel to Italy , wasting energy and increasing pollution.. Am I really able to distinguish French water from Italian one? ( perhaps wine…) I don’t like the business water I see in Italy ( I don’t know other places)

I always use the same bottle and refill it several times. If I don’t buy the water and I use the water pouring from the tap in my house I can save energy of the process for building the bottle , and energy from the travel from a place to another … and plus I can save my dignity because I don’t let them pulling my legs .

More

Watch the film or movie then, especially if you are American. The film is better then me

conclusion

Someone could regret to have trigger me to post…

Festa della Toscana

November 30, 2006 - 14 Responses

30 November 1786

first time a state soppressed the capital punishment and the torture in the world . It was in Tuscany by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo ( from Asburgo-Lorena the Austrian family ). I’m proud because Tuscany it’s my place ( but it’s no longer a state, it’s currently an Italian region)

It become also the European day against the capital punishment, there are several cities that celebrate this day .

Actually I don’t know how I can translate “festa” :? , it could be

Tuscany Day

Tuscany festival

Feast of Tuscany…

help…

Justice, legality in words (English) and world (Italy)

November 21, 2006 - 7 Responses

In a comment here I have said that justice can be unfair. therefore I have noticed that in italian we haven’t the word fair. In Italian there is a word less, relating to justice… but we have a word more for the opposite, I mean mafia, please don’t draw any conclusion!

It seems to me that

Justice = Giustizia in this case these words are saying just the same thing, perfect coincidence

I can guess the following

1. Justice = the law, the rules

2. Justice= the concept of what is right

Justice 1 can be unfair, Justice 2 cannot. We aim to Justice 2, but we only can reach justice 1, sometimes….somewhere.

I know that is just the reality. I must accept this and I do. But I won’t accept illegality.

(I’m afraid I ‘m in a hard speech for my poor skill, er… doesn’t matter!)

you have not imagine murders or robbery when you think about illegacy. Imagine simple daily (Italian) life.

You must park your motorbike in the special spaces, but you can’t : there are cars instead. No others places are available. So you are force to park your motorbike in the cars place. By the time you’ll be back you will find a fine, only for you….not for that car.

Doctors have to follow strict rules to vaccinate babies, but usually very fews ( I should have written “nobody”, I’m afraid) follow them …

People must pay taxes , a lot of people here don’t pay taxes. As a result we missing money for educations, health service and I think also police service that should force people paying taxes…

The consequence:

If you need something from the public service, you have to find someone, I mean a friend, that help you. for example, you need x-ray. No money, few doctors and so long queues for x-ray. But you really need it and you have a friend that is a doctor just in public health service… I guess that someone will wait a bit more his or her turn.

Not so immoral, only a bit, isn’t ?

but IT’S UNFAIR ! I get angry…
